Sunset Lake

The Bates Township Park located on beautiful Sunset Lake is a place where families celebrate summer! You can enjoy swimming, fishing, boating and camping. Other amenities include the Pavilion, Ball Field, Basketball Court and the Children’s Playground. Come and enjoy! Chicaugon Lake Boat Landing

Chicaugon Lake Public Access Boat Landing - Bates Access. This property was donated to Bates Township by the late Tony Andreski. On September 28, 2005 a project including a “shallow access” boat landing, on the north shore was completed by Alex Atanasoff as an Eagle Scout project. Atanasoff organized the project, which included a donation of the first layer of gravel by Dr. Robert Han, the use of equipment and miscellaneous items by Krist Oil, a bench from the Chicaugon Lake Association, and a monetary donation from Iron County Wildlife Unlimited. The landing is capable of handling small boats, canoes or kayaks.

Bates Township Water Trails

The Bates Township Paint River Water Trail is an approximate 5-mile route along the Paint River that starts at the Paint Dam off of Parks Farm Rd and ends at the Bates-Amasa Road at the Township’s Paint River Access Site. The Paint River is a popular canoe and rafting river that has multiple rapids and over 65 miles of navigable waters. The Hemlock Rapids are located on the Township’s Trail. The Bates-Crystal Falls Township Water Trail begins at the Bates-Amasa Rd Paint River Access Site. This is a 7-mile water trail flowing east down the Paint River ending at Erickson Landing just west of US141 on Sheltrow Rd. This is an easy traveling river and a favorite of canoers and kayakers who want a leisure ride or may want to fish on the trek. You can also go another 2 miles and exit at the US Hwy 141 bridge.
